Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance Therapy

MIchael sivik dmd, ficoi

Sleep apnea is a worldwide epidemic affecting over 12 million people in the U.S., according to the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Those figures also estimate that 1 in 25 middle-aged men and 1 in 50 middle-aged women have sleep apnea.  Often, people who suffer from sleep apnea may be prescribed a CPAP machine (continuous positive airway pressure) by a physician. However, many patients find they are unable to wear such a device or maintain the hourly requirements for it. In these cases, oral appliance therapy can help maintain the airway so the patient can get a good night's sleep.

Dr. Sivik has been working with the Geneva Medical Center, Ashtabula County Medical Center and University Hospitals to help provide every patient an opportunity for good sleep, which has major implications on your overall health. He has recently taken over 100 continuing education hours in dental sleep medicine from nationally known, Board Certified dentists specializing in sleep disordered breathing, in order fabricate dental appliances to help those who suffer from sleep apnea.
