Endodontics
DR. ALEX DiMASSA DMD, MSD
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the health of the nerve tissue inside of a tooth. Most often, an endodontist gets involved when the nerve of a tooth is damaged beyond repair. In this case, it often possible to save the tooth using a root canal treatment. The tooth's damaged nerve is removed and the canals are cleaned and sealed. The tooth can then be rebuilt with a crown, often allowing us to restore a very damaged tooth.
Typically, an endodontic specialist can complete even a challenging root canal in a fraction of the time it would take a general dentist. Our specialists often only require one visit, usually around an hour in length. An unusually complex or severely infected tooth may require a second visit to allow the body extra time to heal prior to sealing the canals.
An endodontist may also be consulted to evaluate dental pain of unidentifiable origin, or to determine the viability of a tooth that has a fracture or internal pathology.
Our specialists happily accept outside referrals from dental office across northeast Ohio. Please call 440.992.3146 to schedule an appointment.
